Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/21/2016

Number: 7

7 monarchs nectaring constantly on mexican sunflower tithonia. Most were the 'super generation' with the thicker black veining and darker rust/deep orange wings. The tithonia/mexican sunflower has outlasted the butterfly bushes and apart from a few hyssops and the last blooms of butterfly bushes, that is all I have left. They have been toppled by wind but are still flowering and producing. Thank God I grew them or these migrants wouldn't have much. I am leaving out old bananas too and watermelon but nothing except flies and wasps are using them. Weather turns much colder tonight so hoping they can get what they need and move on quickly.
