Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/22/2016

Number: 3

I was walking through Edwards Gardens about an hour ago and spotted three Monarch caterpillars among some of the milkweed leaves there. I spotted two of them at first, both on the same plant, and after checking if there were anymore I found another caterpillar on another plant only a few steps away. A few years ago I used raise the monarch caterpillars that I found, but haven't seen any for a while. I thought this was very, very unusual to find Monarch larva at this time of the year and I thought it needed to be reported. I decided to take the three of them home because I know that its just going to get colder from here on out and I was worried they would die. I am keeping them safe with food from my own milkweed plants right now and they're a lot more active and "happier" now that they are warm. Not sure what I'll do with them if they make it to the adult stage (by then it will be November and they'll never make it to Mexico) but I have time for now.
