Today we planted our tulip bulbs! It was a sunny fall day with mild temperatures in mid-50s. When we turned the corner into the Secret Garden, a bird resting on the brick perimeter flew away. You could tell that the ground had not been dug up/into for a long time, as it was somewhat difficult to dig deeply. We tried for 18 cm, but many dug 12-14cm. We used digger tools and rulers to measure. We did come across several worms when digging.
We had leftover bulbs, so we are experimenting: too shallow, planted underneath rocks, horizontal, upside down, cut in half -inside side up and cut in half - inside side down. It will be interesting to see what happens.
We made sure to put white stakes so we know whose is whose come spring.
Finally, we put wire over our garden to discourage critters.
We can't wait to see what happens as we continue to monitor and observe!
