Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/22/2016

Number: 1

At about 9 a.m. on a sunny Saturday morning, October 22, I was shocked to see one lone female hummingbird attempting to drink at my (unfortunately nearly empty) red glass hummingbird feeder. She was very interested in the feeder but seemed to ignore the potted red blooming salvia right next to the feeder. We have not yet had a killing frost in the Twin Cities metro yet, so my annual red salvia and herbs are still alive and well. I made some fresh sugar water after I saw her and refilled the feeder shortly after, but I don't know if she ever came back. I had thought all the hummingbirds had left Minnesota, but apparently not! If you are in Minnesota, keep your hummingbird feeder filled in the event of late migrants!
