Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 11/02/2016

Number: 1

This is the latest I have ever seen a monarch around here. On 10/29/16, I tagged and released one (male) which I raised from an egg on my garden milkweed. I thought that one was the latest, but this one has it beat! Today (Day of the Dead, and this one missed the party), I spotted this wild female monarch on my butterfly bush at about 4 PM. I took this photo and had to leave - it was still there when I returned at least 30 min later. Since I knew it had been feeding a while, I decided to tag it (WMA 097) and gently tried to place it back on the bush. It took off lazily swooping around, but I didn't notice it back on the bush after looking numerous times. The good news is today was sunny and in the 70's... good traveling weather, but not much breeze. Adios and safe travels, little one!
