While doing a bird survey within the Okefenokee Swamp on November 3, 2015, I noticed a large number of Monarch butterflies over the marsh. Although we were a little later this year doing our bird survey, I kept track of the monarchs that I saw. It was considerably less than in 2015 so the peak probably is towards the end of October. It seems that the swamp is more important for monarchs than previously thought. They were feeding on Bidens mitis.
