i've had wild monarchs come to my porch which has curissavica and narrow leaf in pots.
i've had quite a lot this year at about 4 different times. data is in my excel spreadsheet which i can email you if you wish.

at some point when we had heavy rains, i brought the larvae in. almost all were 4 to 5 instar. i now have 6 chrysalises and 3 larvae. when they emerge, they go back outside.
