Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 01/31/2017

Number: 1

Robin was singing in the morning around 8am along with cardinals, Carolina wren and house finches. There have been a few robins around all winter.

The song began as a dawn song and lasted about 3 minutes. Then there was a pause of about 1 minute and the true territory song began and lasted about 2 minutes. It was soft and tentative. The bird then flew off. I didn’t hear any other robins singing at that time. I did hear several chup and seet calls through the afternoon but they were in the distance barley audible over the other birds calling and urban noise pollution.

I am heading out to the Platte river late this afternoon and will be looking and listening for red-winged blackbirds.

Starlings are beginning to change to their spring and summer calls.
There is an increase in hawks in the area and a female coopers hawk is trying to run the crows off from my yard.
The resident Canada geese flock has tripled in size.
And I have spring fever bad!!!
