All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 02/07/2017

Number: 1

While volunteering at the Virginia Living Museum during my walk between 8:30 and 11 am, I noted that a male cardinal sang it's territorial song full bore, a pair of Canada geese were checking out a nesting platform, scattered robins were feeding here and there on the Conservation Garden lawn. Botanically, alder buds and witch hazel buds are enlarging, native iris leaf fans and some fern fronds have emerged, and Deer Park Lake is loaded with green plankton. Today was in the low 70s by the end of the day, but that won't last the rest of the week. Winter birds still here, but spring is just around the corner.
