All Other Signs of Spring

Saw my first monarch of the season yesterday. Just passing through it seems. I am confident that it was a Monarch. I am a bit of an enthusiast (we created a Waystation and registered it with Monarch Watch last year) and I am pretty experienced with identifying them. I also found it really surprising to see one this early. We have been unseasonably warm this January February, and mosquitos are already out, believe it or not. I'm not sure if this was indeed a "winter monarch" (I've never heard of these in our area) so I just assumed it was an early-bird who was taking his cues from the warmer weather. I'll be sure to let you know if we see others. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to snap a picture this time.
