We had a week of winter in mid January. Last three weeks have
been warm with highs in low 90's and lows in low 70's. Trees
are leafing out and fruit trees are blooming. We had record
cold in January all the way to the Gulf ... one 24 hour period
here on the bay with 20 hours below 26, then it warmed up and we
have had weekly rains covering a great deal of the state.
Today I saw my first good looking stalk of Asclepias viridis standing
above the grasses and weeds near the intersection of US87 and 77 at
Victoria. I would estimate the stalk to be eight inches and I could
see six nice leaves from the shoulder of the turnaround.
And the fun begins ...
