I was out smoking, & suddenly realized the old fallen leaves around me were moving a lot without wind. Just little flicks, and the sound of them crumbling a bit. I started seeing shining black, & at first figured I was imagining it - then thought it was beetles & other typical bug movement, or just your average "nature being nature" kind of thing, if that makes sense. I suddenly saw a worm popping out of the ground and wriggling straight up, which was downright creepy, honestly, haha. & then it hit me, that they were all around. It was worms that had been suddenly coming out of the ground, almost in unison. I came online to learn that this is normal(suddenly I get why they're called "nightcrawlers" - emphasis on the night part). They were coming out, grabbing those leaves, and dragging them into the ground. Apparently they do this to let them rot and feast on them, which is really interesting. Never thought worms were this amusing & had this level of activity. Personally, while I respect what they do, I also find them terrifying, so I won't be going out of my way to see them again, & won't be touching them or anything. Nonetheless, it was quite an experience, creepy though it was!
