I have played host to a single male Broad-billed Hummingbird since about October 10, 2016. My yard is quite protected, though sort of a micro-climate in our valley that sees colder and windier weather than elsewhere. I do see different species of larger birds than the valley throughout the year.
This is the first fall/winter the BBHU has visited the area.
I put out brooder lamps and feeders throughout the coldest part of our winter. He is now feeding on the feeders and visiting my blooming rosemary, forsythia, etc.
There have been at least 100 birders who've visited the yard to see him as he visit is such an aberration.
