Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/28/2017

Number: 1

The light green spherical blooms of Asclepias virdis
are showing up along US87 and at the intersection of
US87 and US59 at Victoria. Not many, I guess I could
count thirty bloom heads poking up thru the green weeds
and grasses.

Also beginning to get a fair number of other roadside
wildflowers from Port Lavaca to around Victoria. The
early planted corn fields are up nicely and adding a
fresh green to the countryside. The farmers that didn't
plant are waiting for the soil to dry after the last two
rains.

Still in low 80's for daytime high and in low 70's for
nighttime lows. Did get into upper 80's a couple days
and then the roller-coaster spring weather cooled things
about 15 degrees.

We begin to look for the first remigrants coming up from Mexico
in about a week, actually we are already looking.
