Tulips EMERGED
Sightings report image

Date: 02/24/2017

Number: 1

It has been unseasonably warm with a temperature high of 75 degrees today. 4th and 1st grade citizen scientists at Mifflin Park observed that the first eight of 200 tulip bulbs planted last fall have pushed up through the soil about 1". We noticed that the dark green leaves are wrapped tightly and have reddish tips. Our questions include: Will the leaves change color? How tall will the plants grow? What will happen if the weather gets cold?
