I was quite surprised to see a beautiful, large monarch fly past me this afternoon. It is the first one I have seen since early last November. It sailed past me outside my front door as I was on my way to take my cat to the vet -- alas I had no chance to try to follow and maybe get a photo. It was traveling determinedly from west to east and only briefly stopped to nectar from a wild blackberry blossom. It was about 72 degrees F and cloudy with chances of thunderstorms.
