Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 03/21/2017

Number: 1

Last year we moved into this home. It has a big back deck that I had bird feeders set up on. There was also a big plastic patio storage container that I threw seed on. In late winter I noticed a single male Robin desperately gobbling down some of the seed. I immediately ran out to buy a package of cranberriesome, a more suitable food for him. He got so tame he would sit on the deck railing and peer through the patio doors at me each morning for his cranberries. (Other birds ate them if he didn't arrive early enough.) If I didn't run out there immediately, he would move to the railing by my kitchen window and stare at me. After eating his fill, he would sit contentedly in a nearby tree. This year however, our deck is in shambles due to carpenter ants, and there are no railings for him or patio or a storage unit with seed on it. I believe he arrived yesterday, and took his usual place in the tree where he could see me. I threw cranberries on the deck flooring and the ground. He watched, then flew higher on the tree and started singing to my delight. Another male Robin on the next block started singing, and ours flew over, cackling as he went to investigate. I hope I can come up with some type of railing and feeding platform on the deck for him really soon!
