Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/23/2017

Number: 1

Adult flying over Papilion gardens. Monarch looked fresh and bright. I haven’t seen any milkweed yet but we have lots of other flowers in bloom that the monarch could be nectaring on. We’ve been seeing lots of Tiger Swallowtails, some Falcate Orangetips, Red-banded Hairstreaks, Black Swallowtails, Pipevine Swallowtails, and some Sulphur species.

We’ve been bouncing up and down on the temperatures. We’ve had some days where temps were rather cool all day like in the upper 40’s and/or low 50’s and then we’d have some days with near record highs in the 70’s and 80’s. Overall, it’s been a very strange but relatively mild winter.
