Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 03/29/2017

Number: 2

At around 1:30pm I saw a monarch from my kitchen window, so I headed outside and began to follow her. It was about 75 degrees F, partly cloudy, winds S 7 mph, with humidity 78%. Well, I followed her and followed her as she flew fast and checked a lot of milkweed, some completely new to me. She laid eggs very quickly and was off quickly, so I never got a good photo, but she was wonderful to see! Then I saw another female monarch laying eggs in a nearby section, so I began to follow her. She too covered a lot of territory pretty quickly, laying eggs on fresh milkweed. She paused to nectar briefly now and then on bright yellow Texas dandelions (Pyrrhopappus multicaulis). I was able to get this photo of her nectaring, but it is poor and doesn't do her justice. I eventually had to head back in even as she continued her selective milkweed-seeking and egg-laying.
