Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/04/2017

Number: 12

I have already reported 7 confirmed nectaring on one bush. There were more flying in to roost in the top of a pine tree.

I do have milkweed coming up. I have not found eggs yet.
So far, most of my monarch visitors have been males. This may have changed yesterday.

I am just southeast of Tulsa in Haskell, OK.
I have a lilac bush called Miss Kim and I have observed a monarch or two nectaring everyday after 4:00 pm since Saturday. I didn't observe Sunday because I wasn't home and it rained.
Yesterday (Tuesday) there was a line of thunderstorms in Oklahoma running just northwest of us missing us.
It was a windy day, we received very light rain, and it was overcast most of the day. I am guessing high 60's.
Late afternoon 3 monarchs came in to nectar on the lilac bush. Then I looked up and saw 2 pairs of monarchs mating roofline level.
The line of storms move out of Oklahoma and the sun came out sometime around 6 - 6:30 pm. I observed seven monarchs nectaring on the lilac bush.
I happened to look up and noticed several monarchs darting about the top of our old pine tree.
Counting the seven on the bush, there may have been 4 - 5 more. They all seemed to be finding a spot to settle in for the night.
I didn't think to grab some binoculars. The pine tree is full of small pine cones and old needles so they were very hard to spot once they settled.

This morning was overcast, 50's, and very windy. I did get the binoculars to check the tree around 8:30 and found a couple of monarchs still clinging to the tree this morning.
It is now 1:00 pm, still very windy, the sun is starting to come out. I just went out to observe the tree and saw a couple flying about the top of the tree but still staying in the tree.
