This is a follow-up photo showing the nectaring female and the ardent male. She seemed to successfully elude his attentions by remaining very still. In the photo he is actually mostly behind the thistle (wings outspread, right wing tip showing above it) and at a right angle to her. He flew at her several times, but eventually spotted another female and away he went! Both of these monarchs show the worn & tattered wings of their long journeys ~ here now to give birth to a new generation.
