Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/08/2017

Number: 1

I was sitting at my kitchen table and the monarch flew at a leisurely pace right in front of my sliding glass door. It was a sunny morning (around 10 am) with not much wind, maybe 5-10 mph. No chance to get a photo🙁. I was shocked to see it and thought I should add it to the report.

The monarch look bright in the sun, not at all ragged.

We have had warmer daytime temperatures in the 60's and low 70's this week with lows in the low 40's. We had some rain off and on this week but nothing for 2 days before the sighting.

I haven't seen other butterflies of any species but noticed some moths flying around the porch light the last few evenings. I saw a lacewing and a paper wasp flying during the last couple of days ago.

We don't see much milkweed in our neighborhood and I haven't been out hiking lately to keep an eye out for it.
