I saw 8 monarchs throughout the day- 1 nectaring on henbit, 1 on lilac flowers, the others in flight along gravel roads in the Walton area. Then at sunset there were 12-14 more circling my parents' yard looking for roosts. It was still quite windy from the south. Finally I saw some settle in the hedgerow and saw a cluster high in an elm tree just leafing out, at the end of the hedgerow along the ditch. Monarchs checked out a locust tree, a walnut tree, the sycamores, but decided to settle in the elm. Hedge hasn't leafed yet.
