We were totally unprepared and shocked when this monarch butterfly flew in front of us. We have been raising and releasing monarch butterflies to boost the population for nearly 20 years and we have NEVER seen a monarch butterfly this early in Central Illinois. Nearly all of our first monarch sightings have taken place in May (on really low population years even June).
