First Monarch of the year!
This was by far the earliest I have ever seen a monarch and I saw two others in the area on the same day. I only got a quick look as it flew by but I would say it looked like a new monarch with newer wings.
It was a warm, sunny afternoon and we have had an extremely warm spring this year with temperatures reaching 80 several days in the last week. This spring has also been fairly wet and rainy. There is no milkweed up and available outside, I have small starts inside that will be going out soon.
As far as other butterflies in the area I have seen countless amounts of sulfurs and cabbage whites, a few Painted Ladies and Red Admirals flying by and two Swallowtails so far. Sorry, but no photo!
