Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/16/2017

Number: 1

A monarch butterfly in my yard. The monarch looked bright and new. It immediatly causght my eye as it flew through my backyard.

Our weather has been warm for the past two weeks - in the 70's. It has been sunny and very pleasant, with no rain.

The milkweek (which I reported through your site also) began to appear a week ago. It is just sprouting up now. I check my milkweed gardens both here at my home and at my elementary school daily. They are both sprouting now, but no signs of monarch eggs.

In my area I have seen many eastern yellow swallowtails and black swallowtails, over the past few weeks. In addition, I have seen several small light yellow butterflies (I do not know what kind they are)

My first sighting is so early this year. Last year I did not see any in my area until late July. So my sighting yesterday (April 16) was a big celebration at my house. :)
