I am a science teacher at West Middle School in Ponca City, Oklahoma. I wrote a grant to obtain the funding to build the planter shown. A co-teacher of geography, Mr. Belt, myself, and a buddy, Gary Zink supplied the labor but the kids in my classes grow the plants. We grow annuals (Asclepias curassavica) as the bloom in our area until the first hard freeze. Last year we had over one hundred caterpillars and subsequent chrysalis. The 7th graders plant the garden late Spring to give back to the upcoming 7th graders next Fall. This is our third year and it has been a great success.
