I had not seen any adult Monarchs at the Waystation this season, but found the caterpillars on Swamp Milkweed (A. incarnata)stalks 6-12" tall. It was a cool day and the cats were all sheltering in the center of the plants where the youngest leaves were just beginning to unfurl.
Three days later I counted 15 cats at this same location. All appeared to be second instars.
