Number: 21

The 80+ eggs laid on April 21 in South Eastern VA seem to be mostly infertile. 🙁 About 20 started drying up right away, even though they were in a sealed container. I could see the contents of some of the eggs settling or separating, but supposedly early in the season this is a regular occurrence. And it is definitely early... three months early! Once I removed all the obviously non-viable eggs, I bleached and separated the remaining eggs into small containers. I wasn't sure any of them were going to hatch. Then we had three cold, rainy days and even though the eggs were safe the drop in temps slowed down their development. So seven days later I finally have some babies! There are only 21 right now, and 33 eggs. But if even 15 more eggs hatch I'll be surprised. So far, pleased to have babies, but was hoping more of the eggs were fertile.
