Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/27/2017

Number: 1

Wouldn't stop for a photo! I wish I had more to tell you but it wouldn't stop long enough for us to get a closer look. It was spotted on the playground at the school where I work. We have been studying monarchs so we all recognized it immediately. From a distance it looked quite faded, but it was very active. It was a very sunny and warm day and it flitted around, probably looking for milkweed. We've had lots of rain and warm weather lately in DC. Yesterday (April 29) I was kayaking on the Potomac River and spotted a swallowtail as well.
