Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/29/2017

Number: 5

Monarch Waystation #271 reports my first 2nd instar larvae seen in the yard. I did not do a diligent search, just noticed at least 5 after finding some holes in a few plants and then looking closer as I did some yard work, front and back yards. There are fresh eggs, holes with and without larvae nearby, scattered on several milkweed species [butterflyweed, common and purple milkweeds] front and back. The photo shows two 2nd instars, one partially hidden by the fold of a leaf near the flower bud, on one of the front yard purple milkweeds. Good luck, little ones, there are lots of paper wasps around, so hope they don't find you.
