Monarch butterfly in late April in NY? Is that normal?
my friend and I saw a big monarch butterfly stop to check out the blooming flower on the pear tree in my back yard, and then fly off. The butterfly looked bright, I think, although I don't know exactly what a faded monarch would look like. There is no milkweed up yet, nor have I seen any other butterflies. The weather has been up and down-- we've had a few very warm days, then some others that are rainy and cool, which is typical of late April.
I was really surprised to see it (And excited!) Is this a normal sighting or no?
