Yesterday a local friend called to say a hummingbird was spotted in our area. I checked my feeder, and sure enough it was 1/4" down. I thought I saw one whizzing around yesterday, but couldn't be sure. This morning at 8am, I woke up to a beautiful VERY tiny male at my feeder. He hung out for about an hour, perched on my bare trumpet vine stalks, and taking a bath in the rain... and going back and forth between the vine and the feeder. This is my earliest sighting ever. It's about a week or two earlier than previous years. My lilacs are only 1/2 in bloom, and my Solomon seal is at least a week away from blooming (that's their favorite in my spring yard).
