Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 05/10/2017

Number: 45

First saw a faded female egg-dumping on April 12. Our milkweed plants had more eggs than I've seen in about 10 years of observing. Counted close to 100 eggs. Today I counted 45 caterpillars of varying sizes, most fourth and fifth instar, and found the first chrysalis. Luckily our rain has allowed the milkweed to keep pace with their voracious appetites. Can't wait to see a show of orange in the sky in a few days!
