Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted

Date: 05/02/2017

Number: 4

We finally made time 2 watch 4 activity before 8 pm. 2 females (1 Black-chinned & 1 Ruby) & 2 males (B.C. & Ruby) feeding from feeder in yard near fence & Heatwave Salvia. I tried 2 draw them closer 2 our patio area but they just refuse 2 come near where we sit. We are even wearing our dark navy clothes & pushing our chairs near the house as far away as we can get from feeder's. I guess the next thing we will have 2 do is buy plastic 5 ft. plants & hide behind those. My husband thought I that I had "lost it" last yr. when he came out to find me hiding behind our fence at the pool-pump area with camera & binocular's to I.D. the birds. He asked me what in the world was I doing? I told him it was the only way to get a picture of these birds. They are so very shy & timid. It took me 1 and 1/2 hrs. sitting motion-less & sweating in the Tx sun & heat! Needless to say I did not do it very often. I may have to resort to fence-hiding again this yr. This spring I have tried bringing their favorite feeder in closer. But they know... I haven't been able to outsmart these hummers. If you blink your eyes or move a finger an inch they notice it & away they fly. Huhhhhhhh! :-(
