Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/14/2017

Number: 1

First lovely little male of the season. My mother and I were out back doing yard work when he zoomed in! (Happy Mother's Day!) He went to the big feeder first, spent a few seconds there. I have 2 hanging baskets of fuschia and 2 of cherry pink million bells on my pergola, he zipped over to those but spent most of his time with the fuschia. He then perched on a bare branch for a minute, then flew all around the garden. He inspected the other two feeders but didn't drink from them. He then headed towards the south. I have had my feeders up for 3 weeks, cleaned and fresh nectar every Sunday. When it warms up I clean and refresh them twice a week, but it's been a miserable damp and cold May........until today!! It's still overcast and chilly but seeing that little angel brightened our day.
