Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/20/2017

Number: 1

Earliest sighting for me.

I am certain it was a Monarch. I watch for the band on the lower wings to differentiate from the Viceroy. We watch for them every year as the die off has been of great concern to us. We have a lot of milkweed back of the veggie garden. I watch for monarchs as I work the garden.
I haven't seen any sign of the milkweed yet. I put orange segments out hoping to provide some nectar and attract them.
I am pretty sure it was painted ladies I saw on the cosmos a few days back. I have several flats of these flowers in bloom in flats on the deck, waiting to go into the garden. On two occasions I saw these little beauties.
