I saw what I'm fairly certain was a lone monarch fluttering outside my window yesterday (May 24, 2017), and when it went out of sight I ran outside and it reappeared about 10' above me. This is my first sighting at my present location of 11 years. (As a child I lived in Pacific Grove!) I had never seen any other butterfly such as the one I'm now claiming to be a monarch. I've been growing showy milkweed in my yard for 5 or 6 years, and last season, for the first time, I found a total of 6 monarch larvae on the leaves; regrettably, something apparently got them all. In any case, I did not see a single adult. I am just a tad doubtful that my sighting could be in err due to the timing, which seems early to me. But that's why I joined this forum! I continue to be vigilant!
