Sightings report image

Date: 05/27/2017

Number: 1

May 27 2017 at about 4:42 pm we had a visitor!! First of season monarch butterfly at Pelee Paradise Sanctuary Monarch Waystation 10275! She arrived from the west from neighbouring property and nectared on first flower in her path, a dandelion! During the next 10 minutes she flitted right past our fully bloomed purple lilac tree, allium, sage & numerous common milkweed plants up 4-15" & Edith Ellen Lee Smith's Monarch Promise varigated Milkweed! She continued east across our property nectaring on every dandelion in her path...up to about 10. She rose in the air, flitted above 12' cedar trees & continued east to neighbouring properties & flitted out of view.
She was not fresh looking but a bit faded.

Temp today reached 22°/70° with very light southerly wind. Beautiful blue sky sun shiny day.

She was not first of season for me, having seen others in the past 1 & a 1/2 weeks off property but she is FOS for our Waystation & the earliest sighting ever with seeing one last year on May 30 or 31st.

Zero eggs/larvae found to date this season.
