On my way into Essex, saw her on the road so I stopped and picked her up. It appears she was struck by a car. Her abdomen and one antenna were damaged but she was still alive. This raises the question of whether or not it is better to hasten her demise. Do they feel pain? A lady at a local nature centre told me to put injured reptiles in the freezer as the most humane way to end their suffering. What do I do for a Monarch? If she is carrying eggs would they still develop inside her after her death if I left her on a milkweed plant? Very distressing.
