Single Monarch feeding on Mammoth allium.
I am certain it was a monarch. I tried to get photos but the butterfly was being too active bouncing around, and it was preferring to do it's longer rests in the center of our meadow (which my camera lens is too weak to get quality photos). I was able to get confirmation by eye and through binoculars. I also focused on the wings to assure it had the "glove" shape and proper markings (so it was not a Queen or Viceroy). Monarch butterflies have appeared here on approximately 4 dates since then.
Other butterflies in our area at this time of season are: Painted Ladies, White Admirals, Red Admiral (one), lots of Canadian Swallowtails, Milbert's Tortoiseshell, Wood Nymphs (unable to be more specific), Gossamer Wings (unable to be more specific), and Skippers (unable to be more specific).
Milkweed is up and yes we did have eggs and one caterpillar. Milkweed is just starting to show signs of possibly flowering (I'm guessing within a week). Upon last check eggs and caterpillar are gone (my guess is mother nature ate them all - as there is lots of other insects and spiders roaming on the plants). Image of leaf needs to be zoomed in to see the little caterpillar.
