Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/11/2017

Number: 5

we walk rural gravel roads where the road grader stripped one edge and piled the other. the stripped side has new growth that is six inches or shorter. the other side has milkweed taller and near blooming. all 7 eggs and 4 larva were found on new growth. Further they were only found on east-west roads probably due to very high winds here the last 7 days. one of the larva was 1/4 inch long, the rest were newly hatched. we have usually collected up to 400 eggs and raised and released the monarchs each year.
