Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/31/2017

Number: 9

I was working in my garden and thought I saw something orange out of the corner of my eye. It was a female monarch depositing eggs on my milkweed! I was SO excited. She flitted from the back to the front of our yard and when she finally flew away, I found 9 eggs. I brought them in the house and will raise them inside and then release them when they become butterflies. Last year we raised 34 Monarchs. I'm hoping for double that this year. I've started from seed Common, Swamp and Prairie milkweed and have a bumper crop this year.
