A lot of monarch adult activity on this dike road, bordered by two water impoundments. There may have been more than 3 adults. Confirmed 2 females and 1 male chasing a female. Many seen over the 2.5 hours there surveying.
Almost a mile long, this dike is covered with common & swamp milkweed, grasses, and a number of nectar sources. It will be routinely surveyed this season for all life cycles of monarchs.
Also observed an egg and one larva (young 2nd instar; recorded as the 1st seen on entire refuge).
