Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 06/13/2017

Number: 1

One young 2nd instar found on apical leaf and flower buds of a common milkweed plant. Found during survey of marsh dike road where common and swamp milkweed are prevalent. Lot of adult monarch activity that day, too.
Early feeding and frass evidence of another larva on milkweed near this sighting, but no larva found. Could have been hidden in flower buds.

This is the first larva observed on the entire refuge this season.
