Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 07/03/2017

Number: 3

We have 3 new chrysalis. Interesting observations. One of our neighbors had a yellow jack nest near his house. The yellow jacks (Western common yellow jacks and California yellow jackets) killed a number of the larvae last year. This year we put out a trap (no poison and only for yellow jackets) to protect the larva. We noticed that the larva have figured out that if they hang out on the sides of the terra cotta pots the yellow jackets don't find them. The larva prefer the terra cotta pots over the ground and the plastic pots.
