I nearly fainted when I found this little tyke. Two years ago, after spreading thousands of milkweed seeds along our woodland pond berm, only a few milkweed shoots came up. There are still only about 10 common milkweed plants in this spot. I did not dream that a monarch butterfly would actually find this small patch of milkweed. But she sure did. I will be on the look out for more larvae.
I also have some swamp milkweed growing in another area that is wetter. I hope I can submit another photo of a monarch larva munching away.
