Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/09/2017

Number: 35

In years past we have raised Monarch caterpillars from egg to adult here in Bayfield, WI. After several years of worry regarding the infrequent sightings of adults and relatively unsuccessful searches for eggs and caterpillars that we spirit home to the protection of our porch, this summer marks a season of plenty. There are presently 14 pupae resting and an uncountable number more of the caterpillars at varying in-stars munching madly on the milkweed plants we harvest from our vegetable garden. This is the summer generation. Their children will fly south. With this in mind, we will continue to collect and nurture the Monarch children until the weather and day length changes and send them on their way...
