Horticulture staff at Virginia Living Museum AKA Monarch Waystation #299 reported to me that a monarch pupa was found hanging on the lid of a trashcan inside the "poly" greenhouse sometime within the last week. The caterpillar could have crawled into one of the many vents to get inside to pupate from the milkweeds just outside the house. The trashcan was moved to another area to allow the monarch safe access to the outdoors, and it was found newly emerged on the chrysalis this morning about 8 am.
