Have had the normal Summer congregation of 3-4 little beauties grazing our feeders and Cestrum. Over the last several days, we've watched as a mature male Ruby has taken over about 3000 square feet of real estate. He brutally attacks any visitor in the area. We watched 4 go to battle in the top of a Sycamore. While they were occupied, a sub-adult male came in and fed for a good 3 minutes from the Firecracker Plant (Cuphea "David Verity"). Several times a flower would break off and stick to his beak. For some reason, the number has suddenly jumped up to over half dozen both male, female and youngsters.
